The Indiana Interscholastic Cycling League Coach & Leadership Summit
The 2022 Coach & Leaders’ Summit will be held on February 26 &27 at SRAM/ZIPP in Indianapolis, Indiana. This will be a two day summit filled with classroom seminars and on-the-bike skills.
** MASKS ARE REQUIRED THIS WEEKEND**
The Indiana Interscholastic Cycling League’s annual Leaders’ Summit brings together head coaches, assistant coaches, ride leaders, and parent volunteers—both new and experienced—to develop skills and knowledge, share strategies, and build community. This conference will promote a holistic approach to coaching that creates an environment in which young people can grow and thrive. It also provides the opportunity for participants to learn all about the league structure and processes, how to start a mountain bike team, how to work with their schools, issues related to liability, and the unique intricacies of working with high school cyclists.
The 2021 Coach & Leaders’ Summit will be held on most likely in February 2022. This will be a two day summit filled with classroom seminars and on-the-bike skills with NICA National Trainers.
Classroom Seminars: Classes cover the nuts and bolts of working with high school student-athletes in the context of a NICA mountain bike club and provide the basic knowledge all NICA coaches should be aware of and incorporating into their program. Classes include topics like Recruiting, Training, Fundraising and Risk Management.
On-the-Bike Skills Training: In this clinic, coaches will learn the progressive steps needed to teach anyone (even yourself) both basic and advanced mountain biking skills. You will also learn about experiential teaching techniques, how to accommodate different learning styles, and how to create a positive learning environment for young riders. Much of this workshop is experiential and on the bike, so please bring your bike and appropriate riding and safety gear for the weather.
We will provide food for the entire weekend. This will include a light breakfast and lunch on Saturday and Sunday. However, Dinner is not included. Please email Margaret@indianamtb.org if you have any food allergies or restrictions. We recommend you bring any other snacks if you want something in between meals.
We will NOT be providing lodging for participants. We do have a variety of lodging options for the Summit Weekend.
What to Bring
We highly recommend a variety of clothing (warm, cold, rain gear, etc.), Indiana’s weather is very unpredictable. Please bring your bike, helmet, and cycling gear. We will be inside on the first day, and outside on the second day on the bike. We will have a packet of information for each registered coach, but please bring other supplies if necessary. Yes, there will be Wifi. If you have a laptop or tablet, we will have a time to login into Pit Zone for a quick tutorial. This can also be completed on any smartphone. We encourage all coaches to post and promote the league on their personal and team social media platforms, but we also would like all participants to understand this this is a time to focus on our 2020 responsibilities!
